Rosedale Chimney Bank or Chimney Bank is a hill pass road between Rosedale Abbey and Hutton-le-Hole in North Yorkkshire. The road has a max gradient of 33% Few climbs have such a fearsome reputation as Rosedale Chimney Bank. Its a must do for motorcyclists and cyclists. It’s known by cyclists as The Chain Breaker.
It takes its name from a 100 foot high chimney which was built to support an ironstone mine which was in that area. The chimney was demolished 1972.
The road, shares the title of steepest road in England with Hardknott Pass in Cumbria.
