Col de la Cayolle, at an elevation of 2326m 7631ft, is a high mountain pass located in the French Alps at the border between the departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. It’s one of the French balcony roads. The pass is traversed by the scenic Route des Grandes Alpes D902

The road over the Col de la Cayolle, located in the Parc National du Mercantour, links the municipalities of Barcelonnette in the Ubaye Valley and Saint-Martin-d’Entraunes. The road leads to the red-rock Gorges de Daluis. The part of the road inside the Gorges du Bachelard, is one of the most famous balcony roads in the country.

Different from many high climbs, probably the best part of the road to Col de la Cayolle is the lower kilometres through the beautiful Gorges du Bachelard. It’s a climb full of interesting bridges crossing back and forth over the gorges throughout the ride.

Together with the Col des Champs and the Col d’Allos it forms part of a popular round trip for cyclists

Other mountain passes of the Route des Grandes Alpes include: Col d’Eze, Col d’Izoard, Col de Castillon, Col de l’Iseran, Col de La Bonette, Col de La Cayolle, Col de La Colombière, Col de La Couillole, Col de La Croix De Fer, Col de La Madeleine, Col de Turini, Col de Vars, Col des Aravis, Col des Gets, Col des Saisies, Col du Galibier, Col du Lautaret, Col du Télégraphe, Col Saint Martin, Cormet de Roselend
